Viking Lumber - Start to Present
1944 - Viking Lumber began as "Pine Tree Products" and operated at the Muck
on the corner of Lincolnville Avenue and Miller Street in Belfast, Maine.
Jud Flanagan operated the business as a small short lumber mill producing
barrel staves, pallets, and box stock.
1945 - "Pine Tree Products" was incorporated as "Viking, Inc."
1949 - As it expanded, the mill was moved to Belmont Avenue (RT 3), across from
where the McDonalds is today. The new location provided more room for the
increased production. Here it operated as a Dry Kiln Planer Mill,
wholesaling long lumber.
1961 - A major fire destroyed the majority of the mill. At this time Jud decided
to change focus from wholesale to retail lumber.
1969 - Viking moved to it's present location on RT 1, Searsport Avenue. The
move was made necessary because the Belfast bypass was built where part of the
former lumber yard stood.
1978 - Jud semi retired and turned the business over to his son and daughters,
David, Erin and Maureen, who run it to this day with the help of many excellent,
dedicated and helpful employees.
1992 - Vinalhaven store opens for business.
1994 - David opened a full service saw mill at the Belfast location called
"Pine Tree Products". They can saw up to 40' long x 30" wide.
- Viking purchased the Lincolnville location.
- The Warren location was opened this year as well.
2001 - Gene Flanagan joined the team becoming the store manager for the Lincolnville location.
2003 - Viking purchased the Hancock location.
